It is now known to the world I was a menace. Mom said that I was the one who turned her hair grey. I don’t believe that. But maybe.
I used to play baseball when I was about 8-9 years old. I was no good. I tried to act like I was all that and hardcore.
I wore my jean baseball cap with a huge sunflower sewed onto it. Yes, yes, you read correctly.
a blue jean baseball hat (with an extra long brim), with a sunflower coming off of the hat.
No it was not a picture, nor was it a logo… it was the actual flower glued/sewed on the hat.
and not just a small dainty flower, I am talking huge. You couldnt miss it. Aliens from other planets couldnt miss it.
I still felt hardcore. Even with the bouquet of flowers on my head.
I stood in the field in the squating position, making sure mom and dad were watching me
and noticing how ‘into’ the game I was. Looking back, I don’t think they took me seriously with my sunflower boppin’ around.
I was pretty competitive in nature. Whenever we lost a game (which was more often then not),
I would still want to show the other team that they wouldn’t want to mess with me ( I had such attitude).
I felt like I had to put there gloating egos back in check..
At the end of each game, my team (as well as the other team) would line up and walk past
eachother giving hand slaps (the quick version of a handshake), saying ‘good game, good game,
good game’ to each and every player. To show that you were a good sport. Which I wasn’t. Apparently.
Well, I wanted to have the image of a good sport, so I did it. But not before spitting in my hand…
Thats right folks. I would spit in my hand. everyone of those team members left with little Kari germs.
They would never know who it was, because by the time they noticed, they had already hand slapped 3-4 other players.
Thinking about it now nearly makes me gag.
I have know idea why I was like that. Its unexplainable.
I thought of this story while shooting a wedding. They both were teachers. I felt so inspired by them because,
I realized that they probably have to deal with Little Karis everyday.
and I wouldnt wish that upon anyone.
