    Edmonton Wedding Photography {Reflect the Love}

    November 30, 2009

    -By Adam

Kari, Radelle & I have been talking, and we wanted to start doing “somewhat regular” posts on this

blog called “Reflect the Love”. A bit of a play on our name Eternal REFLECTIONS photography!

What this will be, is either a)something nice & loving that was done to us or b)something nice &

loving that we did or c)something nice & loving that we plan to do & encourage you to do or

     d) a great loving quote or e)we will skip it and hope you dont notice :)

Why do we want to do a {Reflect the Love} series? Great question! We want to do this because

we love marriage. We love weddings. We love Relationships. But it takes more then a wedding day

to keep that love going. To keep families strong. To keep families united. It takes {Reflecting the Love}.

We hope that by sharing things that have been done to us, or that we have had the honor to do, that we

will all be able to inspire one another to make our homes a little more loving, to talk a little more gently,

to be a little more tolerant.

    So here it is!

    - Over the weekend, I went out one evening and was doing a little bit of Christmas shopping for Radelle.

I had rockwell in the cart & he was mad. Screaming. He wanted down, but I didnt have the time to play cat

& mouse, so I asked him to please sit in the cart (and even offered him a sucker as fair bribery). But, he was

mad. What was a father to do? I reassured him that I would be quick, and just kept pushing. He screamed.

Kicked his legs & put on a show. I felt like father of the year…but not really. People stared. I continued on,

not wanting to reward his tantrum, but wanting to give in just to get rid of the condemning stares. Just when

I thought I was going to give in, let the 2 year old win, an angel appeared. She had on an employee pin and

said “little girl” (I forgave her for mistaking his gender promptly) “dont you know santa is coming and you

cant be crying?” She was enough distraction that he instantly stopped crying. She chatted with him and

calmed him down talking to him about Christmas. She was an angel. I wanted to sweep her up and say

THANKYOU!! But worried that rockwell might find that confusing…. I want to give her a shout out.

Cathy, you were fantastic & I appreciated your kindness more then you know. Thank-you for stopping

the tantrum & for being so caring!

    - I want to give a shout out to Radelle. We had some vehicle trouble recently. No, not the breakin,

just some other stuff. We needed it looked at, but every repair shop was closed. We wouldnt have

been able to make it home. We pulled up to a small mom&pops shop & saw someone inside. I knocked

on the door & a gentleman came out and was MORE then willing to have a look at it, and spend time

on it (an hour!!!) fixing the problem. He was off work, im sure anxious to get home, but he did it. It

was very thoughtful. Radelle suggested that we buy him a gift certificate & take it to him the next day.

We did & he got tears in his eyes. Both the mechanic & Radelle inspired me.

    - I heard in church yesterday from one of our church leaders that one of the small nicest things

you can do to warm the hearts of mankind is to be a considerate driver. I am not always this person.

I am often out for myself and get easily annoyed at the other drivers on the road. We were taught

that when you (for example) let someone into your lane, it not only brightens their day & surprises

them, but something totally changes in YOUR attitude & demeanor. You instantly are more caring &

that can stay with you for the entire time. Kind gestures change our heart & make us better people.

This week, I commit to being a more courteous driver. I challenge you to do the same.

Edmonton Wedding PhotographerMarlene & Chris are the perfect people to accompany this blog post as they are the epitomy of nice, kind & caring!!! Fantastic people!!

I adore my Adam. He is everything to me.  And he knows it. But he adores me as well.

I love marriage & am a huge fan & believer in the happy ever after. I love the way

that Adam looks at me. Ive had complete strangers come up & comment on it.

    He makes me feel loved.

These two (Ashley & Jeff) are the California version of Adam & I.

They are so in love. They are so happy & playful. They are best friends.

I loved how they looked at each other. I know they will be happy forever.

They are connected at the soul.

Did anyone else read archie comic books growing up?
I seriously loved them. When I was around 10, I found a little local bookstore,
where you could sell your old “archies” (as I affectionatley called them) and then
buy “new” (used) archies. It was like a never-ending cycle of bliss. And I would
like to publicly thank all of the other pre-teens who were my silent partners in

this coop of archie sharing. what joy we brought to one another.

Whenever I would get a new one, I would go to bed early that night, and snuggle

under my covers and just read their floating thought bubbles. The joy that I felt

was tangible. It filled the minivan with excitment on the drive home, it seeped

out under my bedroom door & filled our house with joy.

Photographing a couple in love, gives me that same feeling. That same tangible joy.

Adam calls it my natural high. And it is. It is.

These two gave that feeling to me. Each frame that I photographed was invigorating and

    filled my soul.

So, what do you get when you cross a California beauty with an abercrombie model?

    November 26, 2009

So I realized that I had never blogged about my wedding!

For those of you who don’t know, I got married this past July to my best friend.
We are very similar in some ways, and in other ways we are completely different.
We teach eachother things: he had no idea that you can roll your socks in a ball- he’d just lay them on top of eachother..
He’s taught me how to cook but spaghetti is still a staple in this household.

I just can’t imagine not having him in my life. he completes me. he is the kind of man who wakes up
in the middle of the night to give me back the blankets he stole.
We put eachother before ourselves. selfless.
There are days when I can’t even deal with myself. but he finds a way to understand
me, and to show me that he loves me. he knows me.
It literally brings tears to my eyes the thought of him not being in my life (i know its cheesy…but its true).

and I love that he picked me.

So, our wedding we decided to go with a vintage 1940’s glam theme . i’ve always secretly wanted to born in that time and be BFF
with Audrey Hepburn.and we could dance and sing to the songs from My Fair Lady together.

We had family sing at our wedding (vintage/oldies music)
We had a swing dance performance ( I tried to convince matt to take swing dance lessons…but not even a Lindor chocolate could convince him).

We actually took pictures the day before our wedding in Waterton, so I wouldn’t have that stress and time restraint on my actual wedding day.

The Beautiful Radelle and Handsome Adam took pictures for us!! Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts.
We love them. no… we LOVE/ADORE/CHERISH/CRAVE them..

It was a little different being on the other side of the camera,  Radelle and Adam had their work cut out for them…
I am not a good poser.
I am good at posing people.
    But for myself..

I am terrible. dare i say, horrifying?
no really. ask her. she’ll be honest and tell you the same.

I saw this phrase from the bible awhile ago, and it 100% made me think of my amazing husband and our beautiful marriage.

“Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die”

    Mucho Love,
    Kari

O,h on a sidenote: I also want you all to know that we are doing ‘Cans For Comments’
So for anybody who leaves a comment we give a can to the food bank…
    Lets rock it!

Edmonton Wedding photographerLast night I was robbed. I had my SUV parked while I was having dinner with friends. I came back to a smashed window, GPS gone, rockwells DVD player gone, and my church cd’s gone. I was so angry. I felt violated & used.

Ive decided however, that im going to just “gift” those items to that person in hopes that they genuinely needed them, or really need the money from pawning them. It feels so much better to think that I just made a donation to a needy person, then to be mad, hurt & angry.

Lesson Learned. (now can I have my GPS back? lol!)

“Giving frees us from the familiar territory of our own needs by opening our minds to the unexplained worlds occupied by the needs of others”

    Merry Christmas Stranger. God Bless.

It has been a long day. but a beautiful day. I especially loved the part when I was singing and bustin’ a move in my car
today listening to Lady Gaga (i needed a ‘good’ beat to shake my thanngg) -i looked to my right, and about 3 kids and
1 mom staring my way.with their noses pressed up against the window. Looking to the left to avoid the awkward
eye contact- there were two old bitties shaking their head at me… I am sure they watched in utter amazement
over my killer moves. For example, the hand jive and head bop.

Right now I have my comfy slippers on (with one pant leg in and one out).
my hair up in a loose bun. My favorite sweater (which I ’stole’ back from Radelle).
munching away at the perfect hazelnut chocolate.
Ok, to be honest- its was already eaten by the time I started this post.
    Thats how I do it.

    Mucho Love,

    Kari

    -by Radelle

I want to be fancy. I really really do. And sometimes I even am. Sometimes ive got those stilletto boots, chunky-yet-slimming-fall-sweater, amazing scarf that brings out my eye color…you get the idea. Sometimes, I serve food with the dinner plate perched ever so fancy on a charger plate. Sometimes I even add a garnish. Sometimes Rockwell and I have out afternoon water sip…from tea cups. Sometimes we have our ants-on-a-log (raisins on celery with peanut butter) on our best plates with little orgami napkins on the side. Im just saying, sometimes I can bring it. Other times, im just simple lil’ ol’ Radelle. Known to others as cranberrycanRadelle. Yes, you read right. They call me that. My family. On one hand, how flattering that they know me that well. On the other hand, how rude to call me out.

But internet, alas it is true. I love, I mean seriously love Cranberry “sauce”, right out of the can. I dislike when people try to mush it up as though it didnt just come

out of a can. Or make it using real cranberries. I only like it like this.

Straight out of the can, on a plate, with the lines in it from the can.

Dont hate me, im just that fancy & cannot help it.

    Another California Shoot- By Radelle:

I puffy heart loved these two. Why? Well for a lot of reason. The most obvious & the one that

left the biggest impression on me, was the way that they laugh so easily together. No one was

necessarily cracking jokes (fine, Okay, I may have been), but they were just so very at ease with

one another. It showed on their faces, in the body language, and most especially in their eyes.

They will be so happy together.

    November 20, 2009

When I was around 7 years old, my dad took me to an auction sale. I have no idea what he was buying,

but after I got my bag of chips, I wandered off.  Pretending to be Anne of green gables. On a new farm for

the first time.  Unsure of my future. Wishing for a bosom buddy.

    When she appeared.  My Diana.

I have no idea what her name is now.  But she was my auction sale friend.

It was kindred spirits at first sight. We played all afternoon. Ran through fields.

Picked flowers. Pretended we were the belles of the ball. Hit up our dads for more

fries&gravy money. and laughed. I remember we mostly laughed.

We exchanged mailing addresses and promised to write. But little girls are fickle creatures,

and we most likely lost the addresses before we even got home.  But that is no matter,

auction girl was important to me.

When I first met Gladys in California, I felt the same way. There was just something about her that I was drawn to.

Something that made her special to me. Something that told me that we would be friends.

This time, I wont lost her address. Afterall, we have facebook to keep us connected.

It could be her easy & lovely laugh, or her sparkly eyes. Or both. But the fact is,

    I thinks she is awesome.

She is getting married in a vineyard in california next year. In 364 days.

She is going to be a beautiful Bride. I am so happy for her!

    November 20, 2009

Radelle finally convinced me to blog about this.
    I am dying inside.
But I think its needs to be put out there and to get it off my chest .

    I am Sooo Professional…

    Ok,

Sometimes when you are driving a car that you havent been driving in awhile…
    You forget things.

    I remember this moment perfectly..

There I am at the Getting Ready house..
Shooting the most exquisite pair of shoes.
    and
the brides says (in a worried tone)

“uhh KARI! Your CAR is ROLLING away!!’

    me: what?? rolling??

the bride: YES! Its still rolling down the street!!

Me in a state of panick was frazzled and ran out of the house… yes, you guessed it…

    with no shoes
( i shake my head in shame..)

With a bridesmaid running ahead of me.
By the time I saw my car.
    It had stopped..

half my car was up on the neighbors lawn.
    ..

If it had gone any further.. it would have been on a ‘main’ residential street…
    where traffic is usually constant.
    Oh my heavens..

This wasn’t just a little roll my friends.
    It rolled past 5-6 houses.
In another way of seeing it, it rolled to the last house in the culdesac. (on the curb/lawn)

I was so used to driving our automatic Jeep, that when I got into our little standard car… i forgot the E-break.

I attempted to drive the car back to its original spot..

but my legs were so shakey..

I could hardly control them.. with the clutch.

    and I stalled the car.

    wow.

    (please, please.. no applaud necessary)

    * on a side note:my face went red*

I went back into the house, wiping my bare feet on the front porch matt. hunched over.
    Out of breath.
    panting.

I looked up at the bride (Milene) looking at me, and I gave her a thumbs up
And we both nearly fell over on the floor laughing.

But on the positive side of things…
It got me an adrenalin rush that lasted all day long! =)

    so there it is.

I am always there to add a little excitement to the day. hehe.

    Mucho Love,
    Kari

    Here is the Beautiful Bride – I think we’re BFF’s now =)

    November 19, 2009

The minute Halloween is over… and I am meaning 12:01 AM (November 1)… I bring out the Christmas Decorations!
I think Christmas is the one day a year I LOVE MOST!!!
I love the coming together of friends and families. I love the lights.
I love the smell in the air… and I am not sure its even different.
    I love the love.

I Adore it. I Love it. I Live for It.

This year my new husband and I needed to go buy a tree.  We wanted a real
one but we thought of the amount of time we will be at home to take care of it- – it was not good idea.

So we went with a fake.

We go to the store and in my mind I am thinking of the most LUSH,
BEAUTIFUL, THICK, EYE PIERCING GREEN,  tree. Not too tall…. just right. I had Matt come take a look at the box before purchase and he said  ‘it looks good!’

(Seriously though, what is he going to say? Kari I think this tree you picked out is lame…)

And I found it! I found the perfect first tree for us… to celebrate our first Married Christmas Together. And what a celebration it will be!!!!

Now onto the decorations… which wasn’t easy

I wanted my wedding colors… Red and Silver..
The look on his face said it all ‘really? Can’t we do something different??’
On the count of 3 we each called out a color and no matter what.. those are our tree colors…
(imagine us in the middle of the store, with tons of people around…)

    1… 2….3…

    Kari: SILVER
    Matt: GREEN

    huh?

    I looked at him bewildered…
’the tree is green….really… you want it to be green, but the tree is green…???? ’

*I am sorry, at that precise I had to put my foot down* ;)

    Ok.. lets try it again..

    1…2…3

    Kari: SIlVER
    Matt: Blue

    So there it is…

    Silver and Blue.

Once we got home, I was sooo eager on getting that tree up I ripped open the box and start setting it up.

    Hmm…

Kari : ’matt…? where is the rest of the tree? ’
Matt: ’ what? What do you mean…? ’

That’s right folks, Our tree is 4ft high.  He knew that all along and assumed I knew. I didn’t even think about how tall 4 feet is…. in all the excitement of picking out a tree.
Its the kind of tree people put in their front porch…

    And the worst part…
    Its not even symmetrical.
The left side caves in… its not the beautiful triangle shape..

To give you a better idea with the height of the tree:

*Our TV is taller than our Christmas Tree…maybe I should put it on top of that. Maybe then the little guy will get noticed.
*Our medium sized plant is taller than our Christmas tree..(we had to move it, because well that’s just embarrassing lol
*I think the only presents that can fit under our tree are chocolate bars… about 5.
*If you are sitting by the tree… you are almost taller than it.. (PROOF below)
*Our knees are taller than our Christmas Tree… (ok, now I am being dramatic…
but it is pretty close! I may have to bring out the tape measure.)

And of course, we bought wayyy to many decorations for this little guy. Wayyy to many.
Afterall, I was expecting a giant of a tree.. the tree of all trees… but with this little guy there are only so many branches..
i may soon have to double them up with decorations just to use them..but i fear it might weigh em’ down.
    If its not balanced.

    So there it is…

Our First Christmas Tree… and it’s a  mini… a very little mini. but now I cant return it,
well because… its a memory. Its us. Its our first Christmas as husband and wife.
It only makes sense that we would be the only couple in the world to buy a mini tree by accident.
    It’s who we are.
    we’re just like that.

    Mucho Love,

    Edmonton Wedding Photographers- By radelle

I think that we have established that I am not as polished as id like to be whilst traveling for

work/shoots. I think that is evident here. Tonight was no better. As you know, im in

California working (and having the time of my life, while learning that I am sadly out of

fashion), and I am alone. Typically Adam is always with me. However, having just left

Rockwell for Hawaii, I couldn’t bear the thought of us both leaving him again. So Adam

kindly is having father-son week (apparently they’ve been so bass pro shop & some big

sporting store, among other manly, manly places….I’m sure…). Anyways, as I was saying,

     I’m here alone.

Tonight, I came back to my hotel (it is divine in case you are wondering. The

continental breakfast that is complimentary has REAL hashbrowns, you know

the kind your grandma made from REAL potatoes that SHE cut up?? Yeah, well

they have those here….) and I put my key in the door & went to walk in when I

     heard “clomp, clomp”.

No that’s not quite right. It was clomp, clomp, but also with a dingy sound.

I couldn’t identify it & I froze. Worse, when I reached my hand inside the room

(brave move I know) and flicked on the lights, it stopped.  That could only mean one thing.

It had to be human. And it knew I was there. Oh sweet mother of pearl. I turned heel and scooted

my hiney down that hall so fast I could have one medals.

I went to the front desk and said to the young man ” I need YOU in my room. NOW”.

oh-my-gosh, he looked at me like I was crazy. I said “its not what your thinking. I heard

a wierd noise, and I am NOT going back up there alone. I will sleep on the floor behind

this desk before I go up there alone”. So he came up. The whole way up the elevator I

was all “you know im not crazy…I dont usually travel alone…im from Alberta…yes,

thats Canada….no its not in Toronto….anyways this place is so big…..and scary……..

” Once we got in the room, this is what I said (no word of a lie)…picture me all like sleuth

like Angelia Jolie, except the only thing I had to shoot with was a camera…”Ok, you

check out the bathroom, make sure to pull back the shower curtain, Ive got your back”

his reply “its just the air conditioner”  Me: ” You will not leave until this place is secure”

Him (again, no word of a lie) “am I being punked”  Me: “can you be serious? What I heard

was NOT an air conditioner. And if there is someone in here and they are hearing us bicker,

they know we are not united!!!”    Him “ohmygosh, is this a trap? Is someone going to jump

out and kill me?”  Me: “Be mature!!” (as im pushing in the curtains to make sure there is

no body standing behind them.   Me: “please secure the closet & under the bed”.

turns out it must have been the air conditioning. Never let me leave Edmonton

alone again. ever. I’m shaming us here in Cali. They think we are crazy.

(btw: I love Orange County so much that I just might marry it) Here are a couple of shots, from today of a couple of couples (tounge twister perhaps?). Many more to come, but now I must hop in my jacuzzi tub, read a book, put on fuzzy socks, make my hotel room all messy because I can and live the good life.

Edmonton Wedding Photographer, Drayton Valley Photographer | Gratitude

    November 11, 2009

I have always had incredible respect for those who have served our Country. In the past & Now.

My Grandpa fought in World War II as well as my great-uncle. They both lived. Although my

uncle lived for a very long time in a concentration camp & barley survived. My Grandpa is my Hero.

I cannot even imagine the courage that it would take to gear up, buck up & go defend your country,

your children & your wives. I am so incredibly grateful for the freedom that I have, and I cannot

think about it without tears welling up in my eyes. My grandpa never talked about the war for

many years. My dad said that he never heard him say anything about it. You could see such pain

in his eyes. By the time us kids were teenagers, he started talking about it a little bit. In bits & pieces.

The stuff that he could manage to share. My grandpa met & married my grandma in England.

She was his little English war bride. We just adore her! (on her shirt in the pictures

below, if you look closely, you can see a ship pin. Its the Queen Mary that she came

over on. Grandma is still with us, however grandpa

passed away about 4 years ago. He is missed dearly.

This summer I photographed a brides wedding. Her brother & best friend  Joel was recently killed in the war. My heart wept for her & her family as I looked through his mementos & photos & realised the sacrifice that they had made for ME.

I challange you to teach your children about the price that was paid for their freedom.

You will always be appreciated & loved Joel.0491392

    Chilaxamouse - By Radelle

I nearly peed my pants. we were laying in bed talking. Me looking through recipe books (of food I cannot bring myself to cook as I just dont feel that it is healthy, but love reading about it anyways…)
and Mr.Jensen was reading his Porter Rockwell book. I said “what would I contribute to a recipe book?”
Mr. Jensen offered “veggie platter”? ha ha…Mr. Jensen.
Not funny. “Perhaps my califlower bake” I suggest…or my pita ‘pizzas’…..
Mr. Jensen says, id make the gooiest chocloatest, double fudgiest, dessert that I would call my chocolate chilaxamouse. “is that a real thing”? (im not one to be ‘up’ on baking terms)…
He said “no, chilaxamouse….like just hanging ou, just chilaxin’ with your chocolate dessert.
    Hence chilaxamouse.”
To which I burst out laughing my hiney off.
Then I asked him to get me some cough syrup stuff. I dont even know what it is, but he thinks  it will cure this rough cough ive been battleing for days. He brings it and hands it to me.
I say “honey, im reclined in bed, how am I to drink this without a spoon”?
he then pulls out an enormous soup ladel from behind his back. Again I peed laughing. if only I could have that much cough medicine…imagine how well id sleep :)
oh, the laughs Mr.Jensen, oh the laughs.

I was thrilled. I had found wildlife. sealife. whatever. Sunning itself on a rock. With Adam always spotting

things before me (example: “oh honey did you see that whale?” me:”where???!!!” Adam” oh its gone now” me:”Boo”),

I was so pleased that I found these two little guys first. So pleased that I insisted that I got a photo with my prizes.

After the photo (which I was so excited to have for future bragging rights), adam said “wanna see if they snap at me?”

and he waved his finger in front of them (first of all, RUDE, they were tanning!!). Nothing. So he touched the back of

the one. Nothing. Next thing I hear “Radelle they are dead”.  I insisted that they must have died AFTER the photo

was taken. I had found them live. Hadnt I??  I insisted on a funeral.
