    Edmonton Wedding Photobooth

    August 20, 2010

At Jenn & John’s wedding, they had the most charming & fun thing ever.

A real photobooth. Guests LOVED this!

Stephan from flashworks photobooth did an excellent job of managing the crowds around his booth

and making sure guests had fun.

They had the photobooth open during cocktails, and once the dance was started. Guests just flocked there and

appeared to be having so much fun!

I dragged Stephan into his own photobooth with me, and apparently, I smell bad.

No suprise after a long day of shooting (wink)

    Edmonton Wedding Florist

    July 19, 2010

I know that when you are planning a wedding it can be daunting to navigate your way through
DJ’s, Bands, Catering companies, Florist, Makeup, Hair. So, whenever we find a company that really impresses
us, we try to blog about them….to help ease the stress on our brides.
100% of the time, these companies do not even know we are featuring them on our blogs (until we email
to tell them!) and there is no compensation in any way. It is honestly just us, trying to showcase some
fabulous work, to help you with your lovely Edmonton (and area) wedding.

Today we are featuring two florists that recent brides have used, whose work & attention to detail
is amazing. They are fabulous artists!

    Fort Edmonton Wedding Photography

    May 26, 2010

    -By Kari and Radelle

Fort Edmonton Park is one of our favorite locations to shoot Edmonton weddings at. It offers endless different “looks”

and is never overrun with brides & wedding parties (as the leg grounds can be). Whether you are going for a vintage look

or a modern look, different buildings & walls (and even green spaces) can help to create that look for you on your wedding day!

Enjoy some more photos of the lovely Alina & Nick! (more to come tommorow!!!)

p.s. (as I was crafting this blog post, I left and attempted to do my hair & makeup like Alinas. It was a flop. But worth the try.

…worth the try. Just thought you should know.  -Radelle)

    “Negatives” explained…

    April 21, 2010

I think that if I were a bride nowadays, I would be overwhelmed shopping for a photographer.
Some photographers give the digital files “negatives”. Some photographers (although way less) give them
with all of the images touched up. Some give them, but only low resolution (poor quality).
Some don’t give them & you buy every print that you want from your photographer.

Let us explain what we do & why we think it is important (hence we do it!).
For ALL of the shoots that we do (trash-the-dress, Bridals, Engagement, Wedding,
Day-After) we always give you your images (negatives) on disc, every image touched up.
Full Resolution. The files that you have on your disc are the best quality that you can have.
We want you to have this, so that if you wish to do it yourself, you can order
a giant canvas or print for above your couch.

Of course we have a lab that we use & we
offer our services to you, but our brides are modern & empowered & often want to
handle things themselves. It is not our style to say “yes you can have your images on disc,
BUT they will be low resolution”. That limits you to emailing & printing a 4×6 (maybe).
For any real printing, you would still be going back to your photographer & ordering
every single image that anyone wanted through them.
That works for some photographers, it is just not our style. Our style is to think about what we
would want & give that to our brides.
High Resolution, Fully touched up, ALL of the images from the day.
    Simple, yet Perfect.

Similarly, we feel that our Brides deserve the best. Hence, we make sure that you
don’t just get the images straight out of the camera (SOOC), we touch them up.
We want them perfect for you. I die thinking that any bride would receive her
untouched photos & have to spend hours upon hours touching them up herself.

So, the pictures below will explain far better why we think it is important that you
make sure that your photographer touches up all of the images on your disc.

    First of all, some definitions:
    SOOC Straight out of camera
Retouched This is what will be on your disc. Perfect, touched up images.
Fine Art With the Ever After & Extravaganza packages, you receive
Fine Art images on your disc.

    __________________________

Take a look & see the difference between a image which is SOOC & retouched.
The image that is straight out of the camera is a sharp, properly exposed,
image. Technically & artistically it is very nice. However, the one on the right is the one that
I would want to have if I were a bride. It just looks finished. This is what all of the
images on your disc will look like. Brighter, Punchier, more “wow”.

Destination Wedding Photographers/ How lucky are we???

    April 15, 2010

How lucky am I? I think I carry a small green 4 leaf clover in our backpockets .
Or maybe I’ve trapped a troll in my purse (yes, that is good luck. Thats what the people who play Bingo say!).  I am going to scream this from the roof tops:
I HAVE THE BEST BRIDES EVER! EVER!
The other day, I recieved a package from one of my amazing Brides (hollla at Shannon!).
    {I am going to Mexico with her in a few weeks and am shooting her beautiful wedding on the beach.}
And I open it up and I see a luggage tag… but not just any luggage tag… the cutest FLIP FLOP luggage tag in the entire world!!!

Seriously you guys, this made my day!!! I am sooo excited to show up at the airport with it hangin’ on my luggage… ohhh ya.
And not only did she send us that, she sent us a book, with her days events and times, things to see in Mexico,
    information about the resort… EVERYTHING!!

Shannon has not missed a step with this wedding. She is an UNREAL bride!
Always keeping me in the loop and is ALWAYS making me feel special!!

    SHE ROCKS!!

I am a lucky photographer, because I get brides like Shannon. Seriously. Like I said, I got a four leaf clover hidden somewhere…

    Nuance Occasions {Edmonton Wedding Planners}

    April 2, 2010

If you are looking for a fantastic wedding planning company, look no further then Nuance Occasions in Edmonton.

They plan the most jaw-dropping weddings locally as well as making sure that destination weddings are equally as fabulous.

I recently worked with them while photographing Chris & Marlene’s Devonian Gardens wedding &

Hotel Macdonald Wedding Reception { here (ceremony) & here (getting ready) &  here (Reception)}.

    The job that these ladies did was amazing. Not only did everything look fantastic, not only was every detail attended too;

but they made sure that any hiccup (if there even were any) was dealt with quickly & subtly. That is the beauty of a

experienced wedding planner. They make your day go perfect, they put out any fires so that YOU can enjoy your wedding day.

    Stress free.

** Watch the Slideshow featuring their amazing Edmonton Wedding Planning work HERE.

Let me tell you… Those kits on their hips are not just to look professional. They have EVERYTHING in them.

They also have roll along ones & I was able to look in one (with permission) and I’m pretty sure I saw a BLOW DRYER among

a million other things. Amazing ladies.

A few fun things about the fabulous Jolyn (as taken from her website):

::My name is Jolyn – it’s pronounced joe-lynn – but you can call me Jo as my name is often mispronounced,

so don’t worry if you don’t get it right, I’ll still answer!

::I’m obsessed with triscuit crackers (the rosemary basil ones are my favorites).

::I love singing to the car radio, even if I don’t know the words

::I’m a detail junkie– whether it’s napkin folds, table numbers or lining up the placecards perfectly straight

::I don’t have a particular wedding style – I love all styles of weddings – I’m more particular that I help my couples find the perfect style for them!

::I’m a sucker for textures – I love luxurious fabrics, interesting textures and layering.

::I married my childhood best friend & we have 3 gorgeous children (and their names are hard to pronounce too!)

::I used to be a registered nurse, but now I prefer working with people’s happiest days!

::My favorite colors are purple & green, but that that’s just today, it will change tomorrow!

::And I think jellybeans are romantic – if you want to know why, you’ll have to ask me!

::I travel the world to learn more about wedding planning & design every year. I love that I’ve been privileged to learn

and meet from many of my wedding design mentors through the years.

::I’m inspired by many things – by art in a museum, by a shadow cast by the sun, by a luxurious fabric,

by items in a thrift store, or by the way a song makes me feel.

    {spring love} Edmonton Engagement Photography

    March 31, 2010

    -By Radelle

Lets keep this simple. He looks at her with complete adoration, where if he could, he would tuck her in his back pocket
just so that he could spend all day with her.
She looks at him like he is the best thing alive. And he is.
Years ago, she looked at him across a room & knew that he was an amazing man.
To say that their love is amazing is cliche, but it is.
    It’s amazing.

Edmonton Wedding Photographers/ Flirt Cupcakes for Flirty Brides

    January 25, 2010

When my mom used to yell the word ‘cupcakes’, I would run… no, sprint the other way. Cupcakes…eww!

I was never able to understand why people would eat cupcakes.
The cupcakes that I knew were made of bran, flax, whole wheat….possibly molasses??
My mom was a health guru. I am certain that she may have even figured out a way to
blend wheat grass into our ‘cupcakes’.
One of the first weddings I ever shot, the couple decided to substitute a wedding cake for cupcakes…
It was incredibly adorable and each little cupcake look delishious to the eyes… but I wasn’t fooled.
    I knew better.

I watched as the guests went and put a cupcake on their plate…. oh, should I warn them, they are all so innocent!
and then, the most obscure thing happened… many people went of for seconds and thirds.
I couldn’t help but stare and watch them. I was curious… why would they eat those things??
I had to try, I had to see what they loved about them. Did they love the bran? The Flax?

    I hestitantly took a bite.
    Oh Sweet Mother Of Cupcakes.

I have never tasted something so moist, so sweet, so…perfect.
I thought to myself ..’Had my tastebuds decieved me all these years??’
    No.
    My mother did.
She made me believe her cupcakes is what every mother made for their child. ha!

I had to find out who made these perfect little cakes in a cup.
    Flirt Cupcakes.

I feel like I have never lived my life fully all those years, without knowing of what real cupcakes were.

So many brides now are substituting the traditional cake for cupcakes, and I think that is such a cute, fab, trendy idea.
I took a little stop at Flirt Cupcakes the other day…. ordered 4…
Yes, Matt and I devoured every little crumb. Possibly licking the box…
and maybe licking the ‘cupcake paper lining’… ( i am not saying i did and i am not saying I didnt!)

I just wanted to give a shout out to Flirt Cupcakes. It is the most cute and quaint place you ever did see!
I am a huge fan and now, so is Matt.
I love that they treat my brides top notch, and I highly, highly recommend them to brides, friends, family.

They are a real treat!! (Well, Matt thinks I am funny…i think.)

    Mucho Love,
    Kari

Edmonton Oasis Conference Center| Jewel of the West End

    January 20, 2010

When we work with a company/facility/florist/DJ/caterer/videographer/etc  that is phenomenal, we love to pass

the good word on to our fabulous brides. Planning a wedding can be daunting. daunting. tears can & will be shed.

I hope that these ‘reviews’ will give you a little glimmer of light to follow as you forge ahead with creating the wedding

    of your dreams.

I remember when my sister Krystal was planning her wedding…she had always had her little heart set on a classy & popular

Edmonton reception location. We made an appointment & met with the gentlemen in charge of weddings. He could not have been

ruder. I’m serious. We were seriously surprised to be treated this way. Our questions were answered with a condescending attitude

& sarcasm. We were made to feel like a huge inconvenience. Needless to say, we booked her spectacular reception….elsewhere.

As such, it is highly unlikely that I would ever recommend that reception location to my brides, for fear that they would be

treated in the same terrible manner.

HOWEVER, there are so many wonderful places in Edmonton to hold a classy wedding reception and we loved the Edmonton Oasis

Conference center. This beauty features a stunning marble foyer & gathering area with vaulted ceilings. Not to mention the

1300 gallon super tall indoor fish aquarium. Awesome right?  First impressions are everything  and this place brings it.

The Oasis’s (tounge twister) ballroom is spectacular…it even has a balcony (which is just lovely for us photographers)! When

it is time to play the slideshow for guests, dual 12′ projections screens come out of the wall to the delight & enjoyment of all. Everyone

can easily see your show! (and at the end, the zip back into their hiding spot)

There is a lovely courtyard in the back for greeting your guests &  a few quick photos.

Must importantly, when you meet with Anne (780.454.9207),  you will fall in love with her warmth,

her sincerity and you will know that this gal call pull off the wedding of your dreams.
