Tracey & Jeremy

October 29, 2010

Tracey & Jeremy are….there aren’t even words.  I simply want to be them. Both of them. together.

Why? Because they are perfect together. They really, really are.

When I first met Tracey , I pretty much had a girl crush on her. Actually no, before I even met her. Just via email I knew that she was someone that I simply adored. So it was no surprise when I saw how totally, in love with her Jeremy is. It is tangible. They are an amazing example to all married people about how to cherish the one you have. Not just love the one you have, but cherish the one you have.

Jeremy is my kind of guy. Kind & sensitive. He doesn’t worry about looking extra tough by not showing emotions……no….he wears his heart on his sleeve and I love that about him.

I will stop rambling, but I just wanted to let you both know that your love inspired me. Really, truly inspired. And….I love how you both surprised each other with the same card on the same day. Totally meant to be.

FAQ- Photographers {posing}

October 29, 2010

Mandy asked:

How and where do you come up with all your poses? I am really lovin weddings but I don’t always wanna do the same poses… Yours are always different. Do you just think of them on the spot?

Yes, we do.

I think that every photographer (& every person for that matter) sees the world a little bit differently. So one of the best resources that we have is each other. I don’t mean going to people’s blogs & right-clicking. You cannot steal creativity. For one thing, you won’t remember the pose & for another thing, you are not being very authentic. What I find the most beneficial, is to team up with another photographer (in my case, Kari) & have her shoot me & Adam.

While our style is similar (to provide consistency for all Eternal Reflections Photography clients), we definitely each have our own thoughts, flair & ideas. When I was doing Kari & Matt’s shoot, I just did my thing. Did shots/poses as they came into my mind (and a few things I had envisioned before when I was thinking about the shoot). Kari was amazed at some of the ideas that I had, that she had never thought of. The same thing happens when she photographs me & Adam….I see the world differently & I get fresh new ideas.

But what makes it even better then just pursuing other photographers blogs for inspiration? I lived the experience (as the model), the pictures mean something to me, so when I’m on a shoot, I will remember them! They are something Ive lived, done & looked at. That is far more powerful then looking at blog after blog, trying to remember or right-clicking images.

So, my suggestion, is to team up with another photographer & swap photoshoots. It is amazing how much you can learn from being on the other end of the camera.

On that note, my photography style became far more lovely & unique (“modely”) once kari had done a few model shoots of me. We both learned how to direct a client(s) in an efficient way. This was learned by me telling kari “ok, now be fabulous” and her staring up at me blankly “what does that mean”? So by shooting each other, we have learned what to say to help a client give a certain look, or to achieve a certain feeling in an image.

Some of our most “wow” images are from having set up a scenerio & getting the clients to either act it our or imagine it. They are taken to that place in their mind & can just be real. Thus real looking photos, from real moments.

I hope I am making sense here……

So my advice:

Find a photographer who inspires you & offer a photo swap.

Also, take inspiration from your surroundings. So often we are looking down at our screen, or down the lens that we miss something in nature or architecture that would make a really “WOW” picture.

{workshop}

October 28, 2010

We have been very busy with our  1 on 1 mentor sessions, and are fully booked for those for all of 2011.  We have chosen to move away from workshops to these 1 on 1 sessions, as we feel that we can teach *far more* in a 1 on 1 setting. However, we are still receiving emails from photographers who want us to bring the workshops back.

What would you like to see?

We limit our workshops to 20 people & it is first come first serve. If there is enough demand, we *may*, *may* announce the date of another workshop. There will be classroom info on attracting clients & growing a business, a large shooting portion (large) where we discuss natural light & posing,  portfolio building, how to help clients relax, and a tiny bit of post production info.

$800/person (9am- 6pm)

Email love@eternalreflectionsphoto.com

if this interests you & we will keep tabs on if there is enough interest to run another workshop, or if people are mostly prefering the 1 on 1 mentorship.

*also, in your email, let us know the top 3 things you would want to learn at the workshop….so that *if* we do one, we can tailor it to your needs.

p.s. We would also consider, *maybe* doing a workshop in Vancouver AND Edmonton. So please state your preferred location in the email.

Only once have I made a barricade in our office before.

It was a few weeks ago. To block Kari out.

She was working on images & I was working on images.

And she was being annoyingly nosey about what was happening over at my desk.

You see, I was working on HER images. From her Eternal Love shoot.

She was nervous. For good reason (keep reading).

So I made a barricade. Lets just say it involved 8×11 sheets of paper, packing tape, cardboard boxes and a KEEP OUT GEEK sign.

I told her that I was treating her like a regular client & that she would see a sneak peek on the blog in about 2-3 weeks & her image

collection would follow on DVD about a week later, in the mail.

She sighed.

It had to be this way Internet. It has to be.

Kari & I have an amazingly smooth working relationship as business partners. Except once a year.

When I do her & Matt’s photographs.

Then she picks my work & her/matt’s faces apart.

She is VERY hard to please and the whole process can be rather depressing.

Why?

Simple: Because it is Kari & Matt.

It isn’t challenging for the reason you are thinking (because we are photographer partners, there is added stress to make

sure the images are perfect? nope).

It is because Kari & Matt are the hardest clients that I have.

I have never before, seen two people, so very very good looking look so very awkward in photos. The expressions that they come

up with, truely boggle the mind.

It takes TONS of directing, to get them to look like “them in real life”. Does that make sense?

Left to their own, in photos, they do not look like them “in real life”.

This is where I have to put on my big girl photographer stilettos & really really bust.it.out.

Kari & Matt both know this about themselves & have given me full permission to talk about how difficult they

are to photograph.

Without showing the outtakes (kari would KILL me), trust me, we go through a lot of shots & poses & ideas, to get the keepers.

If she looks amazing in an image, he doesnt. He will have busted out his fake smile. and folks, it looks fake.

Even a hunk like Matt cannot pull it off.

If Matt likes hunky,  kari is either a)blinking  b)doing her jay leno angle –she named it that— or c)not paying attention.

Suffice it to say, if I get even 2 great photos of them for their Christmas cards, we all consider it an amazing shoot & pat

each others backs.

So I propose we raise a toast. To Kari &  Matt. The cutest couple around, in real life. And now, the cutest couple ever, on the web.

Kari, I hope you are in love. I think its our best set yet.

Love you both to absolute pieces.

p.s. Kari & Matt, you better leave a comment below letting me know what you think. I am not going into the office until I

see a comment. For reals.

p.p.s. Kari wanted these images processed with a very romantic tone to them. I just love how they turned out!

Craig & Danielle are the salt of the earth. Both are so genuinely so kind, soft spoken & laid back.
They are the kind of people that make you feel like you have been friends forever.
I could tell, without a doubt while photographing them that they are in love.
A confidant love.
They have a cute daughter who is lucky to be a part of such a strong union.
They are both outdoorsy & so many things in common.
I also have those things in common with them & expect Craig and I will be hanging out in the fall,
for many many years to come. Right Craig?!

Here is a sneak peek for you guys!!
