Kari & Radelle (twins?)

September 30, 2010

Kari & I were traveling recently for a wedding (stay tuned!) and decided to take the afternoon to check out the
beach.
We both walked out of the hotel looking very, very similar. Neither of us noticed at first.
Once we did notice, we nearly split a gut laughing. We had indeed, a year apart bought the same hat.
Kari bought hers new in the store a year ago, and I picked mine up at a vintage 2nd hand shop a few weeks ago.
And we both decided to wear them on the same day. We are twins at heart.

Recently, with our husbands, we were having a double-date night. We were playing a game, where you had
to write words describing the word presented. Then compare how many you had the same.
Kari & Matt had none the same. We didn’t fair much better (although Adam & I usually rock the roof on that game).
The word was “hook”.
Kari & I had both written on our sheets “line & sinker”.

It is such a fun journey to be able to share a lovely company, with such a lovely lady, who thinks so very much like myself.

If you are not ripe. You are rotten.
That is a  phrase that I have tried to live by.
I love the idea of pushing yourself to the max, trying new things, walking down paths you have never been down.
It can sometimes make the butterflies dance in your stomach. However the truth is- if you are not continually
learning and stay stagnant, well then my friends, you are rotten.
Everyday, I try to expand my knowledge so that I can be the best I can be.
For example: I would expect my hairstylist to stay on top of their game by taking courses/classes, trying new things,
getting out of the rut that is so easy to sink in- I really would be nervous if she started cutting my hair
with business in the front and a party in the back.
I would want her to be ‘up’ with the times.

I just pray and hope that I will never get in the mindset of thinking I am good where I am at and never strive for better.
I want to continually learn and push myself to the next level. and never settle.

If you are not ripe. You are rotten.

Mucho Love,

Kari

What lens?

September 24, 2010

I have recieved a lot of emails in the past week asking about lenses. I felt that rather then reply to each email, the same reply,

I would just do a quick blog post.

The question is, what lens(es) do you use?

Before I get into that, I want to be clear about one thing. I really, honestly do not feel that gear “makes” a photographer.

I was just as busy years ago, with a kit lens and a 20D then I am now (at a lower price point of course). In fact, my first

International First Place Award was shot with a kit lens. I kid you not.

I honestly believe that the most important things at being a successfull wedding photographer is a)personality/spunk/good energy

 and b)”style”.

There, now that is out there.

Having a photography company with 3 photographers, we obviously have tons of gear…

but here are my personal lead horses (all canon):

50mm 1.2 L

85mm 1.2 L

70-200 2.8 L Version II

16-35 4.0 L

24-105 4.0 L

100mm L

I have a lot of different “looks” that I love, so I am often changing my lenses depending on what the mood/location calls for.

I hope that helps! Perhaps sometime when my schedule is a little less crazy I can explain what I use each lens for.

Until then,

Much Love,

Radelle
