There is just something about winter weddings, especially one’s so close to the New Year. The magic is tangible!

While winters in Edmonton can be brutal, and were leading up to this wedding, we were blessed with -1 weather the day of the wedding! Edmonton is absolutely beautiful in the winter, with it’s white coat of snow everywhere….it makes such a beautiful backdrop for romantic portraits.

Things I loved about this fantastic wedding of Luke & Nicole: Watching Luke cry as his beautiful fiancée walked down the aisle to him. Nicole’s amazing vintage glamour hairdo & dress. The stunning reception decor, done by the highly recommended Jordan of Atmosphere weddings. The reception room was incredibly elegant, yet felt warm and cozy (quite a feat for a winter wedding!).

Your wedding was charming & exquisite all rolled into one, and I wish you both (and your cat ;) all the happiness in the world.

Timeline’s are so important to consider on your wedding day (email your photographer if you have any questions at all, ever! Especially before you book your church time & send out invitations with dinner& cocktail times).

Winter weddings timelines are even more important, for the reason of daylight. Eternal Reflections Photography uses natural light 100% (except in dark receptions), and as such, when the sun sets in the winter at 4:00pm, all formals & romantic photos should be finished by 3:30. With the light being gone by 4:00, the ideal situation is having cocktail hour start at 4, with dinner following at 5:00 or 5:30.

Once photos are done (3:30ish), your photographer can head to the reception to capture cocktail hour & all the lovely details, while you & the wedding party joy ride around town in the limo…or you can go rest in your hotel room and freshen up for the evening (you may also need to warm up!), or attend your cocktail hour & mingle!

An ideal winter timeline, would appear as follows:

Ceremony 11:30-12:30 (or even 12:00-12:45)

Formals/Romantics 1:00-3:30

Cocktail hour 4:00

Dinner/Reception 5:00

It has been mentioned in past blog posts about winter weddings in Edmonton, but here they are again

-have winter boots that are super warm to wear under your dress (hidden) during formals & romantic outdoor photos. Warm feet make a HUGE difference! (A great idea for bridesmaids as well if they have long dresses)

-Have hand warmers for the groom & groomsmen to have in their pockets for warming up hands.

-Get felt dress coats for the groom & groomsmen for outdoor portraits

-Have stoles for your bridesmaids & one for yourself to stay warm

-Book an indoor location as backup in case the weather temperature is unbearable for more then just a few bride & groom photos.

Tannis + Vedran.

Two of the most gracious and kind people on this earth.
The moment I knocked on their Hotel Macdonald hotel room, I was greeted by smiles, laughter and a very cute dog… and a glass of orange juice in a champagne glass.
I knew that this day would be perfect in every way.
Tannis wore a gorgeous cage gown and added a unique touch to her wedding day. Ballet slippers.
How perfect.

All of her bridesmaids/mother and her darling new neice, were there with her helping her get ready.
Of course, Crystal McClung from Perugia Salon did a stunning job on her hair. Everything she creates is a work of art.

The ceremony was intimate and meaningful. With all of their wedding guests standing around them showing their support, with misty eyes. The feeling in that room was speachless.

For formal photos, we went to the U of A Campus, which always creates a beautiful setting for photos. One of my favorites. The unique buildings  with gorgeous pathways always add beautiful dimension to photos.

Her Reception was at the Hotel Macdonald in the Wedgewood room where Kristina McAnally waved her magic wand and *poof* everything was GORGEOUS!!
She does such a wonderful job designing and decorating.

Tannis + Vedran, I truly wish you all the best in your life together. I am so grateful to get to know you both.
I am so touched by the love you have for eachother.
May you have many adventures and travels together and fulfill all your dreams.

Kari & I just wanted to take a moment to tell each of our clients how much they mean to us! We absolutely feel blessed to pursue our passion in life, and that is photographing you! You lovely brides! We cannot wait to attend our bride’s weddings this summer, compare notes, show each other the photographs that we’ve captured, brag to each other about our amazing client’s weddings…and show your lovely face here on the blog! Just know that we think you are great & are looking VERY much forward to your upcoming weddings.

xoxo

p.s. a little something lovely to look at!

Jill & James got married on a warm winter Alberta day in the Edmonton Delta hotel under romantic candle light. With friends and family watching, they said their vows, shed tears and kissed. A beautiful and incredibly classy cocktail reception followed where guests mingled under the glowy candlelight & sparkly ceiling. The twinkling Edmonton skyline could be seen for miles through the romantic floor to ceiling windows. The mood was very romantic.
Jill & James are incredibly sweet people. Jill is one of those girls who you instantly like. She is easy to get along with & simply adorable. She has found her match in James, as he is calm, kind and gentle.
It was such a fantastic romantic vintage wedding with so many charming details, and such an honor to photograph. Enjoy your sneak peek!
